Until 2 years ago I had never associated metal music with the Ukraine. That is until that magical day that YouTube suggested a video for me from a band called Jinjer. After checking out “Sit, Stay, Roll Over” I immediately made my way over to iTunes and purchased all 3 of the band’s albums. The absolute power and precision of their sound pulled me in and hasn’t let me go. And I’m thankful for that because 2 weeks ago I finally got to witness Jinjer live, and I gotta say that I wasn’t the only one that was totally blown away with by their set. While they were direct support for DevilDriver, this Ukrainian quartet had quite the fan base as there were plenty of Jinjer shirts spotted in the crowd.
As we eagerly waited for Jinjer to hit the stage I could only think back to March of this year. The band was going to play their first ever U.S. shows and it would start in Dallas as they would be opening for Cradle of Filth. I was so excited for the show and really looking forward to covering them for my site. Then, two days before the show I received word that the band would have to miss the first 3 dates (all Texas) as there were delays with obtaining their visas. The band posted on their Facebook site that they would reschedule Texas at some point, so all hope was not lost. And the band was well worth the wait.
