“It’s everybody’s dream come,” explains Elantris keyboard player Mark Liber. “It’s something when we started playing this music you’d always joke about: ‘Oh, we’ll just go on tour with Epica sometime.’ And that’s just one of the (band) names we would us. Then, all of a sudden here it is in front of you. Everyone is over the moon.”
Mark spent time with me elaborating on the excitement of Elantris joining Epica, as well as Lacuna Coil and Insomnium, on The Ultimate Principal Tour that kicks off on August 31st in Boston. The tour will make its way to Dallas on September 20th at Gas Monkey Live. It’s definitely a show you won’t want to miss a Mark, along with band mates Lindsay Victoria Ketchum (vocals), Thomas Ullom (vocals), Erik Liber (drums), John Dobosh (bass) and Garrett Chetock (guitar) will be ready to bring their sound to DFW music lovers.
Hailing from Ohio 3 of the members, Thomas, Mark and his brother Erik began their musical adventure in 2003. According to Mark “it wasn’t the same style of music; it was more straight heavy metal. Our current bass player, John, joined that band for a few years towards the end.” After not really going anywhere everyone became more focused on starting their lives and careers outside of music. “As we got older our influences changed a little bit. I personally got a lot more into Dream Theater and they (band) were more into the Epicas, Kamelots and things like that. So we thought, well, let’s just go back to the drawing board and see what we can do. And at that time I picked up the keyboard and enjoyed playing that”. This is when the pieces began to fall into place for the band. According to Mark “we got Lindsay aboard as our vocalist. Our guitar player (Garrett), he actually went to school with Lindsay. So that worked out pretty well.”
