Nothing can take you back to your youth like music and on a Friday night in late June I was feeling fresh out of college and ready to rock. All it took to get this feeling was spending an evening with Florida’s most significant musical act, Saigon Kick. The last time I saw this band was on a trip to San Antonio back in 1996 when they were touring on the Devil in the Details Tour. Wow! Hard to believe that was 21 years ago.
What makes this recent show so exciting is that this is the first time I’ve seen singer Matt Kramer, guitarist Jason Bieler and bassist Chris McLernon together on stage since 1993. I was fortunate enough to see the band on The Lizard Tour as a headliner in 1992 and then an opener in 93. Of course I didn’t miss them, sans Kramer, on the Water and Devil in the Details tours. Every time I saw them they never failed to deliver a stand-out performance. Well my friends, June of 2017 would be no exception.
I’ve been following the band on social media for years and kept seeing Florida dates and even Chicago thrown in there, all the while wondering if they would ever make their way back to Texas. Fantasy became reality when I saw the first post that the band would be making a stop at Trees in Dallas. All I could do is wait patiently and crank up two of my all-time favorite albums: Saigon Kick and The Lizard. Oh the possibilities of the set list began to run through my mind.
